Guest Artist Appearance// Liza Fisher 星云棋牌网站

Downeast Maine Potter Liza Fisher fell in love with clay at an early age. She has always known where she would be, with whom, and what she would be doing - living on the coast of Maine, with her husband Tim, making pots.

Liza’s forms are elegantly simple and highly functional. Fired for two days in a small wood kiln, she employs natural ash glazes embellishing only with loose decorative patterns that reveal images inspired by nature when removed from the kiln. We invite you to meet studio potter Liza Fisher, our Guest Artist for our fifth annual celebration of craft, Art of Ellsworth: Maine Craft Weekend.

Art of Ellsworth... Words matter 星云棋牌网站

Textile Artist Chris Leith will be showing her latest textile work “As an artist living in an angry divided country, I felt compelled to instigate some dialog and listening. My “slow stitching” pieces began as quiet prayers, as I thought 关于 all that is happening in our world. My angry words of frustration lived in my journals until they simmered down and found their places in different pieces. This body of work began in January 2018 as a simple gesture marking the celebration of Martin Luther King. One thing led to another........To balance the solitary nature of this work I find myself at Farmer’s Markets and local community events selling pillows to raise money for programs that benefit children.”

Trunk Show // Rachel Sherman of Malagueta.星云棋牌网站

Join us Saturday, August 19th from 10 - 5 PM as we host Rachel Sherman, the artist behind Malagueta. You've seen her colorful, handcrafted pillow shams in our shop and we're excited to bring her collection of clothing to KōT for this one-day event.

More about Rachel:

After receiving her BFA in Textile Design from Moore College, Rachel Sherman traded in her east coast lifestyle for a stint in Seattle. It was there, in 2002, that she launched her label “Malagueta”, based on improvised surface manipulation techniques such as applique, couching, shirring, top-stitching, ruching, embroidery, piecing, and pin-tucking. Her inspiration: foliage, architecture, fruits, vegetables, insects, and machinery.

Malagueta, in Portuguese, is know as a tiny, hot red pepper that grows in Brazil, where her mother was born and where Rachel has visited & sought inspiration throughout her life. Her lively interpretations of color, pattern, texture, and shape pay homage to her passion for nature, world cultures, and the female body.  Her vibrant, modern and easy to wear clothing first found their way into independent boutiques in Seattle, then down the west coast to Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, then east to Tucson,  Miami, Nashville, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston, where funky and feminine were embraced by a diverse clientele.

Presently, based in Philadelphia, Rachel has reestablished herself on the handmade scene through a variety of craft and indie shows such as Crafty Bastards (DC & Nashville TN), Handmade Arcade (Pittsburgh, PA), Crafty Wonderland (Portland, OR), Urban Craft Uprising (Seattle, WA), American Craft Council Shows (Baltmore, MD), PMA Contemporary Craft Show (Philadelphia,  PA), and a variety of others.

We hope to see you there!
